2026 is a special anniversary year for Mallnitz and the Hohe Tauern National Park: 40 years ago, the reintroduction of the bearded vulture in the Hohe Tauern began. At the same time, the national park municipalities of Mallnitz and Malta are celebrating their 40th anniversary.
The Mallnitz National Park Festival is also dedicated to this special connection between nature, tradition, and community. For the 21st time, locals, guests, clubs, and friends of the national park will gather in the mountaineering village of Mallnitz to celebrate together.
Every year, the National Park Festival shows once again what makes Mallnitz so special: living tradition, a strong village community, and proximity to a unique alpine natural landscape.
For our guests at Apartments Hohenberger, the festival is a wonderful opportunity to get to know Mallnitz not just as a vacation spot, but also as a vibrant mountaineering village in the Hohe Tauern National Park.
If you want to dive deeper into the fascinating world of the bearded vulture, you can take part in a guided ranger tour in the morning. The tour starts at 9:00 AM and is accompanied by bearded vulture expert Michael Knollseisen together with a National Park Ranger. It’s a great opportunity to experience the anniversary not just at the festival, but also out in nature, in the Seebachtal valley of the Hohe Tauern National Park. For the 40th anniversary festival, visitors can once again expect a varied program with live music, culinary delights, crafts, and traditional customs.
Note
Expectedly, Ankogelstraße L8 will be closed to all traffic in both directions between the Alpina Apartments and the Seebachbrücke I | (Florettabrücke) due to the 21st Mallnitz National Park Festival on
Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 11:00 AM until the end of the event (but no later than 12:00 AM).
For this reason, the following one-way regulations are expected to apply:
1. Direction Tauern or Seebachtal – Ankogelbahn:
Road in front of Mallnitz Apartments – Villa Talheim – Marktlbrücke – Liesgelebrücke or further towards staff houses
2. Direction train station:
via Weinstraße
