The National Park Festival in Mallnitz is celebrating its 20th anniversary. We uphold tradition, and the municipality of Mallnitz, the Hohe Tauern National Park, and the many clubs of the mountaineering village jointly organize a festival. Ceremony with the tapping of the beer barrel at 1:00 PM, live music “Just the 3 of us”

For the anniversary festival, visitors can once again expect a varied program with live music, culinary delights, crafts, and traditional customs – such as the performances of the Schuhplattler groups “Die Ankogler”, “Die Göriacher” and the “Hüttenkogler” from Bad Gastein.

A special highlight again this year is the competition “Traditionskapazunder”, where traditional Schuhplatteln, skill, and humor are required. Guests are also welcome to participate.

The Schwussnerhütte opens for summer 2026 – A must-visit in the Seebachtal

Just in time for the start of summer, the popular Schwussnerhütte in the Seebach Valley reopened its doors today. For many guests of Apartments Hohenberger and Mallnitz-visitors, it is a real focal point of their summer retreat in Mallnitz – a destination that combines pleasure hiking in the Hohe Tauern National Park and hut culture.

Open: Daily in July, August, and September

The Schwussnerhütte in the Seebachtal valley in Mallnitz has reopened as of today.

As you can see from the image above, the Schwussnerhütte will be open daily during the peak season in July, August, and September 2026. It is located in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park, nestled in the impressive scenery of the Seebachtal valley.

With regional delicacies, homemade pastries (our tip: blueberry sweet omelet) and an airy terrace, the Schwussnerhütte is the perfect place to eat, take a breath and enjoy.

Why the Seebach Valley is always worth a trip

Anyone who visits the Schwussnerhütte also experiences the impressive Seebach Valley, which, with the Stappitzer See, its wild beauty, the Seebach, the waterfalls and veil falls and the towering 3,000-meter peaks on the sides, is one of the most popular nature experiences around Mallnitz that can be enjoyed as a starting point.

Regional delicacies in Mallnitz – culinary discoveries on two wheels

If you go on vacation to Mallnitz, you don’t just want to experience nature, but also discover the tastes of the region. On our Farm Shop Tour #1 – a culinary tour that is particularly good to explore on a gravel bike. We get to know Mallnitz over around 11 km and can also pack honest, regional products directly into our rucksack.

Honest. Regional. Carinthian.

Mallnitz is located in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National Park – and this is where many products that deserve to be called “genuine and unadulterated” are created. Carinthian cuisine is simple but hearty: whether it’s cheese dumpling soup, Carinthian noodles or a homemade snack from the farm stores – here you can combine a vacation with good taste.

If you like to eat sustainably, support regional producers and want to know where your food comes from, Mallnitz is the place for you. The farms work in harmony with nature and offer their products either directly on site or via small sales corners.

We visited these farm stores and businesses around Mallnitz on our first tour

  • Kniesek Bakery – Fresh bread, original Mallnitz farmhouse bread, pastries and traditional baked goods from the region

  • Tradkasten – Regional specialties, also ideal for gifts and souvenirs Unfortunately, the Tradkasten will be closing its doors on June 30.

  • Rabischnig farm – Products from our own farm, additional sales corner in the Sportcafé.

  • Maggonig farm – Homemade bread and fresh milk. Milking takes place daily in the Melkstadl – the Maggonighütte – on the way to Seebachtal.

  • Saupper Farm – Meat, sausage, farmhouse delicacies, spinach dumplings, Carinthian noodles – directly from the farm at ~1450 m

Everything for a snack or a nice meal in the apartment

Many of the products are ideal for simple preparation in the Hohenberger apartments. A Kaspressknödel soup in the evening after the tour, Carinthian noodles with melted butter and a crisp salad, or simply a snack with fresh bread, bacon and cheese – that’s often all you need to be happy.

The route: enjoyment on two wheels

The entire route is asphalted, well signposted and ideal for getting to know Mallnitz – perfect for a half day or summer evening on the bike, with a full taste experience.

At Apartments Hohenberger we provide our guests with bikes free of charge and without liability. The mountain bikes have frame sizes from S to XL. If you are out of stock or the size does not fit, our Alpine Pearls mountain bikes are available free of charge for one day at Wolligger Sports. There is also the option of testing an e-gravel bike for people around 180 cm tall. Our bikes are all from our bike partner in Lienz – fitstore24.com
