This week of August 2025 is all about herbs: The mountaineering village of Mallnitz invites guests and locals alike to immerse themselves in the world of these special plants with all their senses – and to trace old knowledge and old traditions.

High above the valley, on the Jamnigalm, a special nature experience awaits visitors: Together with Hana Lerchbaumer (herbal pedagogue, herb farmer and mountain hiking guide) we embark on a guided hike through the world of alpine herbs.
We will not only learn about the healing effects of well-known plants such as arnica, but also hike on historical trails along the 2,000-year-old Tauern crossing.
Note/Requirements: Sturdy shoes, sure-footedness required, sun/weather protection, possibly food and drink

The National Park Festival in Mallnitz is celebrating its 20th anniversary. We uphold tradition, and the municipality of Mallnitz, the Hohe Tauern National Park, and the many clubs of the mountaineering village jointly organize a festival. Ceremony with the tapping of the beer barrel at 1:00 PM, live music “Just the 3 of us”

For the anniversary festival, visitors can once again expect a varied program with live music, culinary delights, crafts, and traditional customs – such as the performances of the Schuhplattler groups “Die Ankogler”, “Die Göriacher” and the “Hüttenkogler” from Bad Gastein.

A special highlight again this year is the competition “Traditionskapazunder”, where traditional Schuhplatteln, skill, and humor are required. Guests are also welcome to participate.

Note

The Ankogelstraße L8 will be closed to all traffic in both directions between the Alpina Apartments and the Seebachbrücke I | (Florettabrücke) due to the 20th Mallnitz National Park Festival on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. until the end of the event (but no later than 12:00 a.m.).

For this reason, the following one-way regulations will apply:

1. Direction Tauern or Seebachtal – Ankogelbahn:

Road in front of Mallnitz Apartments – Villa Talheim – Marktlbrücke – Liesgelebrücke or further towards staff houses

2. Direction train station:

via Weinstraße

2 concerts by Pro Musica Mallnitz at the turn of the year

Mallnitz was once again dominated by classical music at the turn of the year 2024-25: with two impressive concerts, the Pro Musica Mallnitz and the invited artists showed why it has been a base for classical music in the Hohe Tauern National Park for decades.

Concert in the Mallnitz parish church - December 29, 2024

The first evening was on December 29 with a concert in the Mallnitz parish church with its fantastic acoustics.

The festive atmosphere of the church provided the perfect setting to bring the year to a musical close.

An evening full of emotion, which was met with enthusiasm by the visitors.

36th New Year's Concert - January 2, 2025

The next highlight was the 36th New Year’s Concert, which took place in Mallnitz on January 2, 2025.

The renowned Zalodek Ensemble with members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra led by Martin Zalodek delighted the audience with an extraordinary program. Unfortunately, Laura Olivia Spengel had to cancel due to a cold.

The musical quality and passion of the musicians made this concert in a packed Tauernsaal an unforgettable start to the new year.

Pro Musica Mallnitz - Music tradition since 1988

Since its founding in 1988, Pro Musica Mallnitz has been dedicated to cultivating and promoting classical music. With a high-caliber offering of concerts, Mallnitz has developed into a cultural meeting point that attracts music lovers from near and far year after year. With the Musiksommer Mallnitz, it also continues the tradition of classical summer retreats.

The careful selection of artists always guarantees the highest quality. In combination with the impressive natural backdrop of the Hohe Tauern National Park, Pro Musica impressively demonstrates how well culture and nature complement each other.

The concerts at the turn of the year 2024/25 have once again demonstrated why Pro Musica Mallnitz is renowned far beyond the borders of Mallnitz. The next concert will take place on April 16, 2025 in the parish church of Mallnitz: “The Seven Last Words of Our Savior on the Cross” – Joseph Haydn: String Quartet op. 51, and afterwards we look forward to the program of the Musiksommer Mallnitz 2025, during which, from mid-July to September, the Hohe Tauern National Park will be characterized by classical music!

Krampus run in Mallnitz - an experience full of mysticism

The Krampus parade is the highlight of Perchtenmania. With terrifying masks and elaborately designed costumes, the Krampuses parade through the streets of Mallnitz town center. The traditional spectacle is not only an experience for locals and guests, but also attracts numerous visitors every year who want to experience this ancient custom up close.

The next Krampus run as part of the Perchtenmania takes place today on Friday, December 27, 2024 . The spectacle starts at 19:30 in the center of Mallnitz (attention road closure with detour from 18:00 for motor vehicles) and offers visitors the opportunity to marvel at the impressive figures and their rituals.

Why you shouldn't miss Perchtenmania

Unique atmosphere: The mixture of customs, music and fire creates a magical atmosphere.
For the whole family: while the Krampuses provide thrills, there are also drinks stands.
Party tent: After the Perchtenmania, the party continues in the party tent. That’s where the party really starts.

We have a few tips for you to ensure that your visit to the Perchtenmania in Mallnitz goes smoothly:

Arrive in good time: It can get particularly crowded in the evening – plan enough time for your arrival. The road through the town center is closed from 18:00 and there are detours.
Dress warmly: The event takes place outdoors, so remember to wear warm clothing. It may also be an advantage to wear ski underwear for other reasons.
Don’t forget to take photos: The impressive masks and costumes offer perfect photo opportunities and you can create lasting memories. #perchtenmania-mallnitz
