The longest night of the year begins with light. For the summer solstice, I was on the Jamnigalm to capture the awakening floral splendor of the alpine meadows in that special light that lasts only a few minutes: the blue hour.

As the sun slowly disappeared behind the Geissl, it changed – gentle, cool, and clear – and settled like a veil over the meadows and the idyllic alpine hut.

With the new Teleworking Act, in force since January 1, 2025, Austrians can now complete their work not only from home, but also at other freely selectable locations. This opens up exciting opportunities for so-called workations – the combination of work with a vacation – in the picturesque mountains of Mallnitz.

What the new Teleworking Act allows

The Teleworking Act 2025 extends the previous regulations on working from home. Employees are now permitted to carry out their work using IT and telecommunication at a location of their choice – be it in a co-working space, a café or even a cozy holiday home such as the Apartments Hohenberger in Mallnitz. This on the condition of a written agreement with the employer specifying the location for the work.
